MCC survivor story from a concerned committee in a US congregation: forced mediation, NDA, gaslighting and bullying
We are writing as members of a concerned committee in a Mennonite congregation in the United States… We feel compelled to share a story from our congregation that also touches on mistreatment of MCC employees… Through our attempts to address this incident, we have borne witness to much of what has been shared by MAST: a callous lack of regard for a worker’s well-being; bullying, harassing, and gaslighting; addressing allegations with private investigations; and using settlement agreements.

George and Leora Epp (Bangladesh)
George and Leora Epp worked as Representatives for Mennonite Central Committee in Bangladesh. They were fired by Zoom without warning in 2020 after enduring years of psychological harassment and being undermined and put at personal risk by their ADs. They repeatedly spoke out against financial mismanagement and lack of transparency in the Bangladesh program and met resistance from their supervisors and from top MCC leadership. They experienced a lack of support from HR during personally traumatic events and were pushed to return to work when they were ill.

Melissa Wilson (Mozambique)
Melissa Wilson worked as a co-representative for Mennonite Central Committee in Mozambique. She and her co-representative were fired in 2020 after refusing to work with an MCC partner organization with documented issues of mismanagement, staff harassment and workplace misconduct.

Katie Moyer (Mozambique)
Katie worked for Mennonite Central Committee in Mozambique from 2016 to 2020.
Her story includes allegations of sexual assault and information about how MCC HR staff failed to respond appropriately to protect her.
John Clarke and Anicka Fast (Burkina Faso, 2020-2023)
John Clarke and Anicka Fast worked for Mennonite Central Committee in Burkina Faso from 2020 to 2023.
They were fired without warning or cause on August 25, 2023, following a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, and shortly after escalating their concerns about workplace abuse to Executive Directors and Board chair.
